We The People
Letter to our Members
Dear Members and Interested Friends:

NEWS FLASH: "Extra. extra read all about it!

The results are in from our Membership. The Direct Democracy Initiative joins Campaign Finance Reform, Term Limits and Full Employment as an approved issue for We The People. As you will recall, We The People is organized as a democracy - one person, one vote; and for an issue to be approved it must be approved by 66% of the Members who choose to vote. The Direct Democracy Initiative was approved by 97% of the voters. Thanks for taking the time to vote! For those of you who are not Members and did not receive the last Newsletter or the Ballot; see the explanation of Direct Democracy at the end of the Newsletter)

Invitation: You are cordially invited to attend the Presidential Announcement Speech of Jeffrey Peters at the National Press Club's First Amendment Room, in Washington, DC (phone 202-662-7500) on November 19.1999 at l2:30 p.m.. This is the last date to file for the New Hampshire Primary, which takes place on February 1, 2000. Since the national press flocks to New Hampshire for the primaries, it will be a good time to promote the message of We The People and work to become a coalition candidate ofWe The People, the American People's Party -representing non-voters, independents, and disillusioned Democratic and Republican voters. This will be the first nationwide write-in campaign for President. Jeffrey tried to get on both the Republican and Democratic Primary Ballots, but the rules do not allow for that, so since Democrat James Madison is Father of the Constitution whose Preamble begins with We The People, Jeffrey will be on the Democrat Line and encourage Republicans to write-in Peters for President on the Republican Ballot. We hope some of you can join us for the announcement in Washington, DC! Please call if you have any logistical questions.

Thoughts and Inspiration

It's our country and we want it back! The country belongs to all ofus, the rich, the poor, the educated, the uneducated... The country belongs to all of us, not just the special interests, not just the moneyed interests, not just the political insiders. The ownership includes all of them but it does not exclude any of us. The country belongs to We The People, that means all the people. The platform is percolating from the people from the bottom up, not dictated by one person from the top-down. To percolate means to be active, to be changing to be fresh, to be alive. Dictate is staid, immobile, ownership limited and restrictive. Which would you rather have? Percolating is a new approach with new ideas. Dictate is an old approach with old ideas. A fresh approach for a fresh century - that is what We The People is all about! (Cici)

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate; our deepest fear is that we arc powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us. We ask ourselves, (who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?" Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is notjust in some of us, it is in everyone. And as we let our light shine, we consciously give other people perimission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence actually liberates others. (Nelson Mandela, Inaugural Address 1994)

In June Jeffrey went to walk with Granny D for ten days in Texas, and escorted her to the National Association of Secretaries of State meeting in St. Louis where she gave a speech and was given an award. (Doris Haddock of Dublin, Nil is Granny D and she is walking across the US on behalf of Campaign Finance Reform. She started her walk on New Year's Day (1999) in LA and arrives in Washington, DC on January 24, 2000th birthday!) See her web site at:http://www.GrannvD.com - she is an amazing and inspirational woman!

In July we went in the RV to the National Reform Party Convention in Dearborn, Michigan- we had been invited to attend after Jeffrey was in Texas with Granny D and met the past and present Presidents of the Reform Party of Texas. They are hoping Jeffrey will seek their nomination for President.

In August, September and October we attended several state fairs, meetings, and traveled in the RV spreading the word of WTP around NH and surrounding states mostly in the northeast.

The next WTP road trips are now being planned: this winter out to the southwest and returning via the lower central states; in the early summer out along the north and northwestern states and returning via the upper central states- we want to have members and interested parties set-up as many get-togethers, including: teas/speeches/coffees/meals or any other gathering where we can meet as many people as possible - answer questions, learn what is on their mind! If you can help organize something for us, let us know - we will be there!

Campaign Finance Reform: well, the McCain-Feingold Bill failed again for the fourth year in a row! Mitch McConnell and Trent Lott once again filibustered it to death - and without much problem. It is discouraging for us, all of us to see our elected representatives "hog tied" and helpless! Why do they not use the same tactics if that is what it will take - tie up any favorite bills Lott and McConnell want! The system has not been changed yet, there are still strong special interests at work, so the game needs to be played for now within the current "rules" - why isn't it? Why are the people still the ones who lose!!! As Sherret S. Chase, WTP member and supporter says: "we can't afford private interests bribing our public servants anymore" - amen! Where is the passion of the sixties? Why are we without strong voices - where is the action, where are our voices? Let's defeat Senators Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) and Trent Lott (R-Mississippi) in the next election and make them pay the price for putting personal greed ahead of America's best interests!

The WTP Story:

Advertising/Handouts/Pencils/Pins: LOGO for WTP is under production as this is being written, it is a wonderful design based on the sun and the flag and will be used for pins, pens, bumper stickers, apparel and stickers!

National Write-In Campaign: we have been given our first donations toward purchasing PENS for the write-in campaign. They are currently being produced. THANKYOU!

HELP Needed

Data Management using ACT 4.0- We are amassing lots of names, interested people, and are receiving lots of calls and requests for information - it is encouraging, exciting and overwhelming - Know anyone who wants some work?

Web site: We finally have a Digital Camera and portable scanner for the RV - to feed photos etc. into the web site. But, the site designers are moving to Florida and we need a co-manager/webmaster - know anyone?

PR and Media Attention: (see the web-site for up-to-date lists of publicity and articles) During our next trips to Washington, DC for Jeffrey's announcement as a Presidential candidate at the National Press Club we will be seeking interviews on radio, in the press and on TV. Now is the time to tell us who you know in the media and how to get in touch with them! We have realized that personal introductions are best - cold calls are hardest - so if you have an old college friend, a co-worker, a family member, a neighbor or a childhood friend who works in the media CALL US!!

Membership and Funding: The members are growing! We get them via the web site, mail, word of mouth, and by taking membership forms with us everywhere and not being shy about talking about WTP and getting people to sign-up. Want to help? Here is a partial funding wish list in menu format:

Added information about the recent ballot vote taken:

The Direct Democracy Initiative would put in place at the Federal level what already exists in 24 States - the right of the people to make laws by means of the initiative and referendum process. The right has its roots in the Preamble to the Constitution which reads in part: "We The People of the United States.. .do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

The Direct Democracy Initiative in no way replaces our representative system of government - it just complements it. If big money and special interests prevent our representative government from acting, then the people can act by the initiative and referendum process. That is what happened when Maine, Arizona, and Massachusetts all passed Campaign Finance Reform for statewide elections by means of the initiative and referendum process. Via the initiative and referendum process, Campaign Finance Reform will be on the ballot in Missouri, New Mexico, and Oregon on election day 2000.

As we said last newsletter: It's all about Members/Money/Press/Involvement and a desire to see positive change - that's what it takes - its pretty simple!

People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going more quickly and easily because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
